NEW DELHI: Air India's B747 jumbo plane, which evacuates 324 Indian citizens from the new Wuhan, hit by the coronavirus in China, landed here Saturday morning, authorities said.
The plane arrived in Delhi around 7.30 am, they said.
There were five doctors from Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) and onboard paramedic staff, an Air India spokesman said.
The displaced people in Wuhan were made up of three minors, 211 students and 110 working professionals, the spokesman said.
The Indian Army established a quarantine facility in Manesar near Delhi to detain displaced people from the Chinese province of Hubei.
Authorities said a qualified team of doctors and staff members will monitor any signs of infection for two weeks.
"With 324 passengers, a special flight took off for India from Wuhan. You can get to Delhi at 7.30 in the morning," said Air India spokesman at 1.19 on Saturday morning.
On Friday the flight left Delhi airport at 13.17 to evacuate Indian citizens from China, where over 250 people, none of them Indian, died of a new coronavirus.
On Friday evening, Air India spokesman said another special flight could take off Saturday from Delhi airport to evacuate the Wuhan Indians.
The death toll of the new coronavirus outbreak in China has increased to 259, with a total of confirmed cases that have increased to 11,791 amid intensified efforts by several countries to evacuate their citizens from Hubei province, the epicenter of the virus officials have said Saturday.
During Friday's flight, the spokesman said earlier: "A team of five doctors from RML hospital, an Air India paramedic staff, with doctors' prescription drugs, masks, coats, and packaged food are on the plane.
A team of engineers, security personnel, is also present on this special plane. The entire rescue mission is led by Captain Amitabh Singh, director (Operations), Air India ".
The spokesman added that there were five cabin crew members and 15 cabin crew members on Friday's flight.
Before leaving for Delhi Airport, Air India President and CEO Ashwani Lohani said, "There will be no service on the plane. Any food will be kept in the seat pockets. As there will be no service, there will be no interaction. it will be interaction (between the cabin crew and the passengers). "
"Masks for the crew and passengers have been organized. For our crew, we have also organized full protective equipment," he added.
"A total of five doctors from the Ministry of Health will also go ... The plane will be there (at Wuhan airport) for 2-3 hours," Lohani said.
Air India has already carried out these evacuations from countries such as Libya, Iraq, Yemen, Kuwait, and Nepal.
