Three suspected cases of coronavirus were reported today in the Indian capital (January 28).
The patients had recently returned from China and were hospitalized at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi with respiratory symptoms similar to those of the deadly disease that currently affects the world.
“There are three patients under observation. The virus has not been confirmed yet, but they show similar symptoms, "a spokesman for the hospital's medical director told Quartz.
Globally, the number of deaths from viruses has reached 106. Originating in a fish market in the Chinese city of Wuhan, the virus causes pneumonia-like symptoms reminiscent of other animal-borne diseases such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and MERS. . (Middle Eastern respiratory syndrome).
While no positive cases have been reported so far in India, more than 100 people have been under observation in the states of Kerala and Maharashtra since Monday (January 27).
Around the world, evacuations and quarantines have been launched to contain the virus as scientists hurry to understand it and its severity. Chinese officials also ended Wuhan by isolating its 11 million residents from the rest of the world.
