News Nation editor Deepak Chaurasia was interrupted in Shaheen Bagh last night. Chaurasia pulled out a video showing two men who prevented him from handing over his piece to the camera. Later in the clip, you can see Chaurasia and his men being harassed by a crowd and taken away from the place.
Chaurasia said he was beaten and robbed of his camera. The southeastern deputy police commissioner, Chinmoy Biswal, said that an FIR was registered against unknown persons under section 394, which refers to voluntarily causing harm when committing a robbery. Several journalists have turned to Twitter to condemn the act.
Meanwhile, Gujarat BJP legislator Madhu Shrivastav launched yesterday explodes and mistreated local journalists when asked about a Hanuman statue erected without permission. The Indian Express reported that it had threatened to "slap the revenue officials" for allegedly delaying their preferred project to install a Hanuman idol in the center of Mahadev's pond in the Wadi area of Vadodara city. "Records, however, show that Shrivastav has already started building the statue without authorization from the revenue department," says the report.
