IT raids at AGS Cinemas, Vijay picked up for questioning


Chennai: Today, GST's income tax officials raided the residences and commercial premises of the cinema screens of AGS cinemas following complaints of tax evasion after their recent launch of Bigil. They also took Vijay (who played the lead role in the film) who was shooting in Neyveli for the Masters for a tax evasion problem.
IT department sources reported that the raids took place in 20 locations, including AGS Entertainment's residence. The founder Kalpathi S Aghoram, his offices and on the screens of his property in the city and in the suburbs.
Following the tax evasion complaints, several teams of IT officials have searched the residential and commercial structures since this morning and the incursions have continued.

Kalpathi Aghoram, who is also the promoter of the Kalpathi group, AGS Entertainment, and AGS Cinemas, was Vice President of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) in the 2016-2017 period.
As a result of the raids, a special team of IT officials came down during the filming of Vijay's "Master" movie in Neyveli and launched a call to the actor and then led him to question him. Filming stopped in view of this development.
