The "disappeared" posters of the Samajwadi Party leader, Akhilesh Yadav, were blocked in his constituency in Azamgarh questioning the absence of the deputy following a police action against women protesting against the CAA and the NRC.
Placed from the minority cell of the Uttar Pradesh Congress, posters showing Yadav with a black band in the mouth have appeared in different parts of the city, including the Civil Lines area.
He said Yadav has not visited Azamgarh since the general election that ended last year.
Congress minority cell leader, Nadeem said: "The SP leader claims to be a strong supporter of Muslims, but he simply tweeted about police actions against demonstrators."
An FIR was registered against 35 nominated people and more than 100 unidentified people involved in the protests. Of them, 20 people were arrested, police said.
In the Bilariaganj area, several Muslim women started a protest in Maulana Johar park on Tuesday against India's citizenship law (amendment) and a National Citizens Register (NRC) but were expelled from the police by force.
