Rating: 3.5/5 Stars (Three and half stars)
Star Cast: Aditya Roy Kapur, Disha Patani, Anil Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu, Elli Avrram
Director: Mohit Suri
Best Part: Despite the beautiful places in Goa, a fascinating Disha and "a perfect 10", it is the story that attracts attention.
Worst Part: The accessibility of the script to get certain things makes some sequences predictable and many spoilers are already in the trailer.
Analysis: Going around the lives of four rather gray characters, the story involves a lot of revenge loaded with countless involuntarily funny "warnings about drugs". Advait (Aditya Roy Kapur), a backpacker hiker, Sara (Disha Patani), looking for her Ikigai away from the Tigers, Michael (Kunal Kemmu) and Agashe (Anil Kapoor), two shady officers pass through Goa.
The story unfolds in two stages, one indicating the purpose of revenge and other execution plans. We see the progress of a normal person escaping routine life and someone in Goa is found full of revenge for a wave of murders. Now, what is the purpose behind is what the story is about.
Script Analysis: This is by far Mohit Suri's darkest attempt to establish emotions mixed with the right amount of emotions. Explaining it in two different stages, it does a comforting job to record what is what. The script accelerates the things that work primarily in favor of the film. Aseem Arora's script keeps the characters in double shadow for almost all actors and is supported by lush shows.
My complaint with the script was your convenience. Many things that happen seem easy to believe and this weakens the bond you build with the characters. There are good twists, but practicality vanishes in some places. Additionally, Mohit had the first opportunity to show a "correct" drug trip (Rajkumar Hirani tried a soft version in Sanju) but he doesn't. There is not a single moment when I carry you on Disha or Aditya's head to feel the journey.
Star Performance Analysis: Aditya Roy Kapur is intoxicating and not bad. It simply increases in level with regards to its performance and also from alcohol to drugs. I have always trusted him when it comes to emotional scenes, but in this, it only reinforces my confidence when it comes to being a tough guy. His robust physique isn't the only thing that shows the efforts he put into the film. From the thin beard to the thick beard, Aditya's face is perfect for different catalogs of beard styles.
Disha Patani leaves the shell and how? It already seems to be working, but this is special. It aims to act and does it quite well. Still, a long way to go, but it had to start somewhere.
Years have gone by looking at Anil Kapoor and if you think he's exhausted by the type of roles he's choosing, you should see him. A drug addict cop who knows no rules: you can't take anyone except Anil. Justify the character, apart from some characteristics that make him bitter.
Kunal Kemmu, the lost jewel of Bollywood, satisfies my appetite for my desire to return to the screen. Gradually he removes the layers of his character while showing the depth he has in his performance. Elli Avram gets a character that was designed for her. In addition to his hippy appearance, he understands the tone of his character and never surpasses it.
Direction and Music Analysis: Mohit Suri has always been "high" in emotions and music, this time taking him to a higher level with the exciting factor. When you reach a point of purpose, you take too many cinematic freedoms that could pinch some of them. A good thing is that none of those pauses or slows down the narrative. This time I met a different Mohit, as it combines its direction with the sound design without problems, leaving a big impact. The "bubbly" sound effects with camera movements worked very well for me.
This is where the movie easily lost a .5 due to all the songs that just clicked on the title track. A potentially good song Hum Phir Na Mile Kabhi is badly positioned by fading all the emotional connection I had with her before the film. All the songs have a lot of music but lack good lyrics. Raju Singh's soundtrack has the effect of hitting the subject.
Final Analysis and Stars: Said and done, Malang takes you from one "emotion" to another without wasting much time. The fast pace does not lose anything important and manages to tell an intriguing story without making you look at the clock.
